New Tango Group

The contemporary tango quintet consists of five experienced soloists based in Oldenburg, Northern Germany. Through a new and original repertoire that combines the essence of Argentine tango with the colours of contemporary music and jazz, they delve into the different accents, pulsations, rages and nostalgias of the Buenos Aires tango nuevo tradition.

...Joaquin Alem (bandoneon), Agnes Izdebska-Goraj (violin), Petia Rousseva (viola), Akiko Kapeller (piano) and Jochen Zillessen (double bass) play with all their soul. The metre pulsates powerfully, the low piano registers rumble, the string tremolos quiver and a proud melos rises. And the pieces from Romeo y Julieta always veer imaginatively from the path of a strict Tango Nuevo. They allow themselves a light-footed texture, breathe the spirit of the present…   Klassik Heute – Stefan Pieper [19.08.2022]
